NW Girls Cross Country Season Recap 2024

The young Wolves team showcased remarkable talent and determination throughout this past season. They exceeded expectations at nearly every turn. Despite their inexperience, with a couple of first-place finishes and a consistent presence in the top-five standings, the Wolves proved to be a tough opponent no matter where they ran. The team finished 3rd at the CIML Conference meet with 88 points and had a 38-point performance in the 4A State Qualifying Meet in Council Bluffs.  This score contributed to an exceptional season that produced seven state qualifiers stamping a remarkable achievement for such a young team.

The state qualifiers included three freshmen: Ella Jones, Quinn Jorgensen, and Piper Vander Ley. They were joined by three sophomores: Emee Dani, Allison Sheriff, and Addy Moffitt, as well as senior standout Anna Sheriff, who closed out her high school career with a strong season.

Ella Jones emerged as the Wolves’ top runner, delivering an incredible debut season that set the bar high for the years to come. Not far behind her was sophomore Allison Sheriff, who built on her experience to complete an impressive sophomore campaign. Both Sheriff and Jones were 2nd team selections for the 2024 IATC Girls 4A ALL-STATE Cross Country Team.

Running to Records

New Records came from all over the field as three runners entered the top 5 times in school history. Ella Jones moves into 2nd all-time with her time of 18:41, Allison Sheriff in 3rd with 18:52, and Emee Dani right behind her with 19:11. As a group, the girls hold the new record for Top Team Time with a 1:36.39, which was run by Jones, Allison Sheriff, Vander Ley, Dani, and  Anna Sheriff. A new record with the Lowest Team Score of 38 is now held by the team of Jones, Dani, Allison Sheriff, Vander Ley, and Jorgensen. To top it off, their second consecutive state appearance came with the highest state finish as they finished tied for 8th.

Keeping the momentum

Watch out for the Wolves as they look to run wild. Graduating only two runners in Anna Sheriff and Lexi Allis, the Wolves look to keep their momentum from this past season as they chase their own records and have huge opportunities to improve them. Underclassmen look to lead the pack again with leadership help from the lone soon-to-be senior Taryn Begley. Altogether, this group exemplified resilience and growth and set themselves up for a bright future for the Wolves program.
