Waukee Thespians enjoyed an incredible weekend at the Iowa Thespian Festival on the UNI campus! We had 48 students from both feeder patterns in attendance!

We had 10 students audition for college scholarships at the festival (the most of any other school), resulting in hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarship offers to our students from schools across the nation. Two of our students were even awarded two of the three Iowa Thespian Competition Scholarships:

• Colin Kiernan (WHS) – Technical Theatre
• Hannah Tibbs (NWHS) – Theatre Education

Many of our students competed in Design and Performance Competitions during the festival. A number of those competitors placed in their respective categories and qualified for the International Thespian Festival, which takes place in the spring:

• Angel Phan (WHS) – 2nd Place Monologue (National Qualifier)
• Isabella Hohenadel & Laynie Walberg (NWHS) – 2nd Place Duet Acting (National Qualifier)
• Coria Chaloupecky (WHS) & Greta Paulsen (PV) – 2nd Place Duet Musical Theatre (National Qualifier)
• Colin Kiernan (WHS) – Sound Design National Qualifier
• Avery Johnson (WHS) – Stage Management National Qualifier

Finally, our Tech Challenge Team (like technical theatre Olympics) got 3rd Place overall. The team consisted of Colin Kiernan, Alex Johnson, Avery Johnson, and Rachel Marwedel. The team also earned the following awards:

• Rachel Marwedel (WHS) – 1st Place Knot Tying (reigning champion in Iowa – two consecutive years!)
• Alex Johnson (PV) & Rachel Marwedel (WHS) – 1st Place Prop Shift
