Get to know Head Wrestling Coach Chad Vollmecke
Where did you grow up?
Le Mars, Iowa.
Where did you go to school?
Le Mars Community High School and then attended Westmar University an NAIA school in Le Mars that closed down in 1997. Also got my master’s in 2003 from Drake in Secondary Administration.
How did you get into wrestling? When did you start?
I started in 2nd grade because my older brother did it. I was terrible. Didn’t win my first match until my freshman year, but by the time I graduated high school, I was a state qualifier, got a college scholarship, and was a 4x national qualifier, one time All American.
What is your favorite thing about teaching and coaching?
Watching kids learn about life and grow as humans.
What is the most rewarding thing about your job?
Building lasting relationships.
Who does your family consist of?
My Wife Jami, daughter Dru, and son Isaac. Dru is a junior and Isaac a freshman.
What do you like to do outside of teaching and coaching?
Watch movies, hang out with friends, play yard games.
What is your favorite restaurant?
Waterfront Seafood Market.
Favorite movie and tv show?
Shawshank Redemption and The Office.
What do you love about Waukee?
The community, people, and how it’s grown but still feels like home.
