In its first year as a team, led by head coach Marissa Kuiken, the Waukee/Northwest Speech and Debate team has experienced great success. The season culminated with a State Championship win at Simpson College during the Iowa Forensic League State Championships on March 2-3, 2023.

Poetry– Lily Severson is STATE CHAMPION, Anna Coffey placed 3rd, Nevaeh Warren placed 4th

Prose– Delaney Boldt placed 3rd, Andrew Derrick placed 4th, Payton Strobel placed 6th, Chelsea Koech who had amazing showings

Program of Oral Interpretation– Lily Severson placed 3rd, Nevaeh Warren placed 5th

Dramatic Interp– Anna Coffey placed 3rd, Frank Morris placed 5th, Cody Holcomb was a semi-finalist

Original Oratory- Grace Fisher placed 6th, Luca Jenkins was a semi-finalist

Humorous Interp- Andrew Derrick placed 3rd

Informative- Alex Johnson placed 6th
