Get to Know Girls Basketball Coach Chris Guess
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Van Meter, Iowa where my dad was the superintendent at Van Meter Community Schools. We moved following my freshman year and went to Seymour Community Schools where I graduated from High School.
Where did you go to school?
High School: Van Meter and Seymour.
College: Southwestern Community College, Graceland College, and the University of Utah.
How did you get into basketball? When did you start?
I was playing all sports ever since I could walk. I played all sports in high school: football, basketball, track, and baseball. I played basketball and baseball in college.
What is your favorite thing about teaching and coaching?
Having the opportunity to work with kids and help them realize and achieve their potential.
What is the most rewarding part about your job?
Having a front row seat to watching students and athletes improve and see the hard work pay off in their successes.
Who does your family consist of?
Wife: Sheri Guess – Current WHS teacher, also going to Northwest.
Son: Casey Guess – Waukee Graduate and Iowa State University Graduate in Marketing.
Son: Connor Guess – Van Meter Graduate and current student at Iowa State University majoring in International Business and Marketing. Also plays football for the Iowa State Cyclones.
Parents: Retired living in Lee Summit, MO

The Office, Yellowstone, and Ozark
Hobbies outside of teaching & coaching?
Spending time with family, white water rafting, hiking, attending Cyclone Football Games
If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be?
My family & all of the players & coaches that we have worked together with.
What is your favorite part about Waukee?
The students/families, all staff and community members.
