Duea/Heitland Named New Track and Field Coaches at Northwest High School

Waukee Northwest High School is excited to announce two new head track and field coaches. Ben Duea (girls) and Brent Heitland (boys) will be leading the Wolves in their first year of competition in the spring of 2022.

Duea is a 2008 graduate of Waukee High School. He competed in three varsity sports and was a state champion in track and field. He later returned to Waukee to be an assistant basketball and track coach. In 2014, Duea was named the Head Boys and Girls Track Coach at Ames High School. He coached seven “top 5” state team finishes and coached 17 individual state champions. Duea was also a six-time IATC (Iowa Association of Track Coaches) Regional Coach of the Year.

Heitland is joining the Wolves program after spending 16 years as the Waukee High School Boys Track and Field Coach. During his tenure the Warriors won two state team titles and his squad finished in the top five on nine different occasions. Waukee also won 12 conference titles during his time in charge. Heitland is a two-time IA HS State Boys Track and Field Coach of the Year and a six-time IATC Regional Coach of the Year.

Waukee Northwest will begin competing in varsity sports in the spring of 2022.
